Wow . . . so . . . that was easy!

Several weeks ago when Abigail's bike tire went flat, I realized that she had completely worn through both of her tires. It also occured to me that rather than spend $20-30 for new tires we might as well look for a new bike since she and Silas are outgrowing their "prayer" bikes. Last year we purchased a nice bike for Silas at our school auction. It has been safely hidden until this year. So Friday I decided to get out the bike, swap training wheels, and give Abigail his old bike until we could find a new one for her. Well, the training wheels didn't really fit Silas' new bike, so I wasn't sure if they would even be able to ride it. However, Abigail took to it and was pretty determined to try.

Yesterday, after a long day away from home, we settled down for some time on the bikes in the driveway. I had been anticipating a summer-long trial of working with each of them on riding a bike with no training wheels. Suddenly Abigail's excitment caught our attention. She was riding on two wheels! We couldn't believe it! She definitely had it down! Within moments she was encouraging Silas to do it, and within about 15 minutes we were taking training wheels off both bikes! In that small window of time they both transitioned from training wheels to biking without them. We both just sort of looked at each other in amazement and said, "Wow . . . so . . . that was easy!"
